Coverage amounts typically range from $5,000 to $50,000. Most policies require only a few health questions — no medical exam. Premiums are level and the policy never expires as long as premiums are paid.
Seniors (typically 50–85), people with health conditions that make traditional underwriting hard, and anyone who simply wants to make sure their funeral expenses are handled without burdening family.
Cost per dollar of coverage is higher than larger traditional policies. Some 'guaranteed issue' versions have a 2–3 year waiting period before the full death benefit is paid for non-accidental death.
